(2) When selecting and dressing grinding wheels, most manufacturers tend to use grinding wheels made of white corundum. This type of grinding wheel is characterized as hard and brittle and tends to produce new cutting edges. As a result, it has a lower cutting force and generates relatively low grinding heat. In the choice of grinding wheel grit size, medium grit wheels such as 46 to 60 mesh are ideal, while in the choice of hardness, medium-soft and soft grinding wheels (such as ZR1, ZR2 and R1, R2), i.e., coarse-grained, low-hardness wheels, are used. Such grinding wheels have good self-sharpening properties and can effectively reduce cutting heat. In the process of fine grinding, the selection of suitable grinding wheels is particularly critical. Considering the characteristics of high chromium, high vanadium, high molybdenum and high tungsten in the mold steel, it is more appropriate to choose the grinding wheel with GD single crystal corundum and large air holes. It is also necessary to regularly dress the grinding wheel to ensure its sharpness and to avoid burning knife annealing and cracks during grinding.
